About the Site;
|
Birds of Turkey / Up
This section includes all birds that have been observed in Turkey, helping to identify species by visually comparing them. In this section detailed information can be accessed in relation to every species. Alphabetical (Turkish, English or Latin) or visual searches can be conducted. It is possible to refine a search to within families of similar species. By clicking 'Full List' on the right hand side corner, the 'Turkey Species List' can be viewed.
Forum* / Up
In this section, designed for notifications, for problem solving and as a communication platform for the site's members, there are five (5) main titles: Announcements-Events; About the Site; Technical Equipment; Market Place; Bird Emergencies. Every site member can open a new conversation title, a new thread, in the forum and can comment on any of these. Visitors who are not members of the site can view site content, however, they cannot take part in any discussions. On the forum page there is statistical information such as the latest thread title, the opening date and the total number messages. The forum is supervised by authorized members of the administration. The administrator may lock a thread subtitle in a forum whenever deemed necessary (closing it to new comments or fully deleting it). On the forum page there is a search engine integrated to work across the forums' threads and thread titles. This engine searches in forum messages by keyword. When each message is added, the site automatically sends a notification email to the user who opened that thread. Each message written on the forum leaves a trace on the home page. Subject threads are indicated on the home page with stars.
Photo Gallery* / Up
This is the section in which the photos uploaded by members can be viewed by clicking the 'Photo Gallery Login' link. The photos and texts added to the Photo Gallery are monitored by the administrators and by the photo auditing committee. Any photos violating the rules or the main purpose of the site are deleted, the owner of such photos is warned and, if required, that user's access to the site can be blocked. The photo uploading rules must be carefully read by all users. In this section, photos are listed randomly by their entry dates, with 24 photos on each page. Using the filtering tools on the page, photos can be filtered by ´´species´´, ´´entry date´´, ´´quality´´, ´´number of views´´ and ´´city´´. Photos marked with a '?' indicate unidentified species. These photos, after being identified and approved by the Species Identification Committee, are placed in each respective species' category. The Species Identification Committee is composed of site members and is determined by the administrators. The photos of species that have been identified by individual users shall also be approved by the Species Identification Committee. The identification becomes final only if two different users from the Species Identification Committee, or the site's administrators, confirm the same species name. If the person who added the photo is already on the Species Identification Committee, then that person's approval is not counted as one of the two required approvals. The process of finalizing the species name works in the same manner for the category of unidentified species. Comments made to a photo added to the Photo Gallery are automatically sent to the user who added the photo.
Photo Forum* / Up
This is the section in which the photos uploaded by members can be viewed by clicking the 'Photo Gallery Forum' link. The Photo Forum is less detailed since it's target is training and learning. The photos and texts added to the Photo Forum are supervised by the site's administrators and by the Photograph Supervising Committee. If required, any photos violating the rules or the main aims of the site can be deleted, the owner of such photos warned and that user's access to the site can be blocked. In the Photo Forum, the photos are, normally, listed by their latest message's date, and recently having received a message can make the earliest added photo into the first listed photo. Moreover, there is the ability to list the photos by their date of upload. On each page twenty-four photos are listed. Comments made to a photo added to the Photo Forum are automatically sent to the user who added the photo. On the home page, there is a tracking section on the bottom right.
Birds Forum* / Up
This section is similar to the Forum, however there are several important differences. The number of titles that can be opened in the Birds Forum is limited to the number of species; no second title can be opened for the same species; only information related to each respective species is collected. The subject title for each new species is set by the Species Supervisor. This supervisor organizes the information collection process for each species, compiles on the Details pages the new information coming from the members, and corrects all mistakes and missing information. On the Birds Forum page there is a search engine that can search the alphabetical index or by species name. Moreover, the list that initially appears based on uploading order can be resorted based on the species name by clicking the Species Name link.
Waiting for Identification* / Up
Species photos (Photo Gallery Photos and Personal Species Enhancement Photos) wait in the Waiting for Identification pool until they have been approved. In order to prevent any mistakes in the species photo data, only the photos that have been approved by the Species Identification Committee are displayed on the Species pages. In the Waiting for Identification page, there are two sections: Last Month's Photos Waiting for Identification; Unidentified Photos. Last Month's Photos Waiting for Identification is the group of those photos that have been waiting for approval for less than one month; Unidentified Photos is the group of photos that have been waiting for approval for more than one month. For a species photos to be approved, two different users on the Species Identification Committee, or the Site Administrator, must present the same opinion on the photo. If the person who added the photo is already on the Species Identification Committee, then that person's approval is not counted as one of the two required approvals.

| In this section site members share the records of the observations they have made of the natural environment.
